About

Muki

I'm a journalist by day, and photographer by weekend and night. I have a background in electrical engineering, but I'm probably more of an arts sort of person, although I still do very much love my tech and gadgetry.

I used to be the editor for a few online and print engineering publications, but I've since moved from print to solely online with an IT/Tech focus. In what time I have left, I run a boutique wedding photography business, Shinobi Photography, and do a bit of freelance photography on the side. I'd love to make the jump to photojournalist by day and devote more of my time towards my business on the weekends. I'm working at writing better articles and shooting more photos.

I used to write a lot of the content on this site during my lunch hour, but I no longer have as much time as I used to and often find time on the weekends or after work. If you like what you see and read, please consider donating to help me with my site running costs or to buy me a coffee.

If you'd like to follow me on Twitter, you can find me under the name of @mukimu.

Australian commercial photographer Peter Coulson once compared photographers to olympians. He said that an olympian striving for gold, for the top of their game, trains every day and dedicates themselves to bettering their form. Likewise, photographers need to shoot every day, practice every day, and dedicate themselves to improving their craft. I run a separate site called Seven in Sydney for the purpose of practising every day, but this site is more about insights into photography for both photographers and those that love photography.

For the gear heads, I shoot Canon and the majority of my stuff is shot wide open, with a 35mm 1.4 prime and 70-200mm IS 2.8.

I have a bit of history of working in anime societies and conventions, but those days are a little ways behind me. Even then, I'm still interested in what the community does and every so often, so may see a convention report or a little post about what's been happening, or what I've heard.

For the most part, I've stayed behind-the-scenes for the past few years and I've left quietly. Most people who meet me at societies and conventions generally aren't aware of my involvement and I've tended to keep it that way.
